Title:For the Record: TUVALU
Article Abstract:Another small island trader, the Fijian ship TUVALU also stranded on the coast of the Fijis but was refloated undamaged. However, in 1965 on a voyage from Suva to Queen Charlotte Sound she passed over the reefs off Honeycombe Rock and grounded on the beach about 200 yards south of the lighthouse. An account is given of crew rescue and discharge of cargo of explosives. Life boats washed ashore bore the name NIKAU a vessel well known in the Cook Strait for many years until sold to Northern Steam Ship Co and then to Burns Philp.
