Title:Surf lifesavers adopt the Anzac spirit.
Article Abstract:Describes how Surf Live Saving NZ has made an agreement with its Australian counterpart to work together on research, training, standards, and levels of qualification, although will otherwise remain separate. Lifesavers patrol about 75 beaches of the 400-500 at which people swim. Approximately 120 people drown in NZ each year, 30% in rivers. Surf Life Saving NZ currently has 4,200 lifeguards, the majority volunteers. They saved 2061 people in the year ended June 2005.
