Title: H.M.N.Z.S. "Achilles"
Abstract: May 1978 when the Indian Navy's training cruiser DELHI, formerly the ACHILLES of River Plate fame, was formally paid of in Bombay and sold for scrapping, a scheme to recover some relics for display in New Zealand was promulgated. The Honours Board was salvaged and handed over to the Achilles Association. The gun director tower, a turret complete with two 6 inch guns and other pieces arrived at New Plymouth 9 Sep 1979 on board NEW ZEALAND STAR. It will be mounted and displayed at the Museum of Transport and Technology.
