Title: A Captive's Diary
Author: Abernethy, Fred
Abstract: Includes an introductory note and summary by J P C Watt of the activities of German raiders operating around New Zealand and in the Pacific in late 1940. Among the vessels they captured and sank was the HOLMWOOD on which Fred Abernethy served as an engineer. His account describes his experiences as one of the captives taken aboard the raiders from the ships they sank, the majority of whom were eventually dropped off on Emirau Island to the east of New Guinea. Mentions are made of various people he encountered from these other vessels. This is the first of four parts and covers his experiences from 25 to 29 November 1940.
