Abstract: Original source: NZ Herald 16 Feb 1925. Describes an inquiry into an explosion and fire that occurred on the scow KAIAIA after she had loaded 1250 cases of motor fuel at an Auckland wharf. Crew member Charles Singer lit a lamp that set off the blast. His evidence was given before the assessors Captain T Braidwood, master mariner, Mr R Lowe, shipwright, Professor F P Worley, and Mr R Paterson, marine engineer. Other witnesses included the scow's master Captain Stewart, and Mr V R Meredith, Henry Wilson Clarke, storeman, David Bell, engineer-surveyor, and Charles F Fleming, master mariner.
